Riva Starr aka Stefano Miele, fait partie de ces artistes constamment à la recherche de nouvelles idées et projets. Producteur de talent, il a déjà collaboré avec les plus grands. Malgré son emploi du temps plus que chargé, Riva nous a fait le plaisir de bien vouloir répondre a quelques questions et de nous en dire un peu plus sur lui et ses différents projets.

Bonjour Riva Starr, on voudrait d’abord te remercier de nous accorder une interview ! Comment vas-tu ?
Salut ! Merci beaucoup, c’est un plaisir !
Récemment, tu as collaboré avec la légende Green Velvet (alias Cajmere). Comment s’est passée cette collaboration et quel effet ça fait de travailler avec un de tes artistes références ?
Ca a été fou, c’est l’un des artistes qui m’a le plus inspiré et c’est un plaisir de travailler avec lui. Il a un talent fou et ça s’est fait très naturellement, je lui ai envoyé un beat et il m’a dit “RIVAAA ! J’ai une idée géniale pour ajouter des vocals là-dessus. Il a commencé alors que je m’envolais vers Amsterdam où je jouais au festival ADE. Le temps que j’arrive à l’hôtel il m’avait déjà envoyé le tout, c’est une track qu’on a bouclé en 2 jours !
En parlant de collaboration avec des pointures, tu viens également de réaliser un single avec Fatboy Slim, qui cumule déjà plus de 2 millions de vues sur Youtube !! Avec, en prime, un remix de Calvin Harris ! Pourrais-tu nous expliquer un peu d’où vient ce projet « Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat », et est-ce qu’il va déboucher sur plus de productions ?
En fait on avait déjà collaboré ensemble il y a deux ans sur le titre «Get Naked», c’était cool de travailler ensemble. On a ensuite décidé de faire une nouvelle track donc on s’est donné rendez-vous à Brighton avec Norman et Beardyman… On est arrivé avec ce slogan EAT SLEEP RAVE REPEAT et ensuite Beardyman a passé 15 minutes à déblatérer au micro à propos de mecs étranges qui ont fait la fête trois jours de suite.. ESRR était né ! La tournure des événements, nous la connaissons.
Y’a t-il d’autres artistes avec qui tu voudrais travailler par la suite ?
Il y en a énormément mais je le garde pour moi pour le moment car j’ai déjà des projets en cours !
Je disais tout à l’heure que la musique de Green Velvet a eu beaucoup d’influence pour toi, pourrais-tu raconter en quelques mots comment tu es arrivé à la musique électronique et quels ont été les artistes qui t’ont le plus inspiré ?
En fait depuis l’âge de 13 ans, j’écoutais en live les mix de la radio locale et ensuite je me suis fait ma propre idée de la musique électronique. Au début je ne faisais ça que dans mes propres soirées avec des potes et au bout d’un moment je me suis mis à la production puis à sortir des sons. A partir de là j’ai d’abord joué et voyagé partout en Italie, ensuite j’ai joué en Europe et un peu partout dans le monde, ça a été (et c’est toujours) beaucoup de travail !
Je crois savoir que tu entames actuellement une grosse tournée avec beaucoup de dates dans différents continents. Y’a t’il un pays ou un club que tu affectionnes particulièrement et/ou un endroit où tu rêverais de jouer ?
J’ai joué à peu près partout, j’aimerais me produire plus souvent en Amérique du Sud mais en général j’aime jouer partout tant que le public est présent et que le soundsystem envoie du lourd !
Malgré toutes ces dates, tu arrives à garder un rythme de production et de sorties impressionnant ! Quel est ton secret ?! Et surtout, est-ce qu’un nouvel EP est prévu dans les prochain mois ?
J’écris toutes mes idées lorsque je voyage, et ensuite je les finis en studio c’est pourquoi je sors souvent beaucoup de sons.. J’ai un emploi du temps surchargé jusqu’à cet été avec l’arrivée d’un album de remix HAND IN HAND ( HIH est mon dernier album qui est principalement constitué de sons dans lesquels il y’a beaucoup de gros noms : Technasia, Uner, Adam Port, Timo Maas, Alex Kid, Inflagranti, HOSH et beaucoup d’autres !).
Depuis maintenant quelques années tu possèdes ton propre label « Snatch! Records » qui marche très bien, comment gères-tu ces deux casquettes de DJ/producteurs ?
J’ai une équipe qui travaille très dur et qui s’occupe de tout le travail un peu pénible ce qui m’aide énormément. On essaye de planifier à l’avance tout ce qui sort sur le label et on signe constamment des nouveaux noms et de nouvelles productions. Aujourd’hui faire marcher un label est devenu très compliqué mais on essaye de faire de notre mieux pour que le projet vive !
Sur Beyeah, on demande souvent à des DJ de nous faire des podcasts, aurais-tu un ou plusieurs de tes artistes à nous conseiller en particulier dans l’optique d’en réaliser un ?
Absolument, on a quelques bon DJs/producteurs comme Blue Mondays, Santos et beaucoup d‘autres artistes très intéressants qui sont en train de monter..Donc oui !!

Hey guys thx for the interview! It’s a pleasure.
You recently did a collab with the legendary Green Velvet (Cajmere). How did that collaboration happened and what did it feels like to work with one of the artists that inspired you the most?
It has been amazing, he is one of my inspirational artists and it is a pleasure to work with. He is crazy talented and it happened very naturally… I sent him a beat and he was like.. “RIVAAA ! I’ve got an amazing vocals idea… “. I was flying to Amsterdam to play at ADE and in the meanwhile he made the vocals.. By the time I arrived at the hotel he sent me the vocals and we finished the track in 2 days!
Speaking of collaborations with music icons, you just released a single with Fatboy Slim which already has 2 million views on youtube! And, as bonus, a remix with Calvin Harris! Could you explain us where this “Eat, sleep, rave, repeat?” project came from and will it lead to other productions ?
We actually made a track 2 years ago called Get Naked, it was fun to work together then we decided to make another track so we met in Brighton with Norman and Beardyman … we came up with this EAT SLEEP RAVE REPEAT slogan and then Beardyman spent 15 minutes ranting at the microphone talking about some random guys on a three days bender… then ESRR was born! and the rest is history…
Are there other artists you would like to work with later on?
A LOT but I’ll keep this secret for now cause I have some plans on the table already!
I said earlier that Green Velvet’s music really influenced and inspired you. Could you explain us briefly how you came to work with electronic music and which artists inspired you the most?
Basically since I was 13, I was listening to live mixes at the local radio and then building my own idea of electronic music… started then doing my own parties with friends and then after a while got into production and releases. From then on I jumped on flights to go and play allover Italy first, then Europe and worldwide after a few years… It has been (and is!) hard work tho!
If my sources are correct, you are starting a huge tour with lots of dates on different continents. Is there a country or a club that you particularly prefer or a place that you dream of playing at?
I’ve played pretty much everywhere, I’d love to play more in South America but normally I enjoy playing everywhere if the crowd is up for it and the soundsystem is banging!
With all these dates, you manage to keep a crazy rhythm of productions and releases. What’s your secret? And most of all, is there an EP expected in the next few months?
I write down my ideas while I travel then I finish them in the studio so that’s why I always come up with lot of music.. I’ve got a busy schedule till the summer with a HAND IN HAND rmx album coming (HIH Is my last album made up mainly of songs) with lots of good names involved (Technasia, Uner, Adam Port, Timo Maas, ALex Kid, Inflagranti, HOSH and loads more!).
For some years now you have your own label “Snatch! Records”. How do you manage both jobs at the same time (DJ/producer)?
I have a hard working crew that is managing all the dirty job and help me a lot, we try to plan in advance all the things SNATCHY and get new names onboard and fresh tunes all the time.. These days running a label properly is becoming really hard but we try our best to keep it real !
On Beyeah, we have a page dedicated to mixtapes made by various dj’s – Would you have artists signed on Snatch! who would be available to do one for us?
100% we have a few good djs/producers like Blue Mondays, Santos and plenty of interesting upcoming artists.. so yeah !
