Tout ceci agrémenté d’une interview pour permettre au plus grand nombre de faire la connaissance de ce talentueux duo originaire de Montréal et aujourd’hui basé à Londres. Leur passion commune pour la musique électronique les a réuni dans un duo de DJ’s aujourd’hui signé sur des labels tels que Get Physical ou Kompakt.

Bonjour Anstascia, Bonjour Vivie-Ann ! Vous venez tout juste de sortir un nouvel EP signé sur Get Physical. Que pouvez-vous nous dire sur ce Voyeur EP ?
Notre morceau Voyeur était sorti l’été dernier sur Get Physical. On voulait sortir un EP avec des remixes de ce morceau, on a donc demandé à Alex Niggeman et Alex Shepheard & Martin Dawson de remixer l’originale. Ils ont tous fait un gros boulot qui a permis aux titres d’être dans le top 20 des charts Deep et Tech House de Beatport.
Comment s’est établit votre premier contact avec Get Physical ?
La première fois c’était à une Jungle Party au Mexique. On a fait la rencontre de M.A.N.D.Y. qui avait ce jour-là débuté son set avec un de nos sons. On n’était même pas au courant qu’il avait notre morceau et de son côté il ne savait pas non plus que c’était de nous. Quand il a passé “In my head” la salle est devenue folle et c’est ce qui nous a permis d’être signé chez Get Physical. C’est vraiment là que l’expression “être au bon endroit au bon moment” prend toute sa valeur !
On voit que vous êtes en tournée depuis quelques mois et on se demandait si il y a une date qu’il vous tarde particulièrement de faire ?
C’est vraiment pas évident d’en choisir une en particulier, notre été est vraiment rempli de dates incroyables. Mais si on devait en retenir quelques unes ça serait la Flying Circus pour l’ouverture du Sankey à Ibiza, les festivals Kazantip en Ukraine et SW4 à Londres, Pik-Nik Electronik à Barcelone, Uberhaus Terrace à Beyrouth et bien sûr le Burning Man !
Tant qu’on en est à parler de vos concerts, vous vous souvenez d’un truc en particulier qui vous serait arrivé lors d’une de vos dates et qui n’arrive toujours pas à sortir de vos esprits ?
Oui, un truc qui nous fait marrer maintenant mais un peu moins sur le moment. La fois où Anstascia s’est foulé la cheville en sautant sur scène et une autre fois où une fille qui était avec nous en studio s’est assise sur le Funktion One et a fait tomber le DJ Booth sur la jambe d’Anstascia qui s’est retrouvée avec un hématome sur toute la jambe.
Quelles sont les principales différences que vous avez remarqué entre vos premiers concerts et ceux que vous faites maintenant ?
Haha ce qu’on remarque le plus déjà c’est le nombre de fans ! Du coup on ressent beaucoup plus de sensations, c’est beaucoup plus intense. Et maintenant on ne fait quasiment plus d’ouvertures pour d’autres DJ, je pense que tout ces nouvelles choses ont vraiment commencé l’été dernier quand on a joué au Panorama Bar à Berlin.
A propos de vos débuts, avez-vous toujours été convaincu que vous alliez devenir DJ’s ou envisagiez vous une autre carrière ?
Anstascia: Pour ma part j’ai toujours voulu faire un métier créatif c’est pour ça qu’après le lycée je suis partie étudier la mode, le design et le marketing. Puis finalement en cours de route j’ai complètement changé d’avis et je me suis passionnée pour la recherche de sons, j’ai commencé à faire danser des gens, je me suis donc dit pourquoi pas en faire mon job ?
Viv: De mon côté j’ai toujours pensé que je travaillerais avec des ordis et au final c’est ce que je fais aujourd’hui !
Pourriez-vous nous citer vos principales inspirations dans la musique électronique et/ou autres genres musicaux ?
On puise nos inspirations un peu partout, de nos voyages à travers le monde. Ca peut aussi bien venir du côté psychédélique des 60’s que d’instruments exotiques. On a pas d’exemple en particulier, c’est plutôt des choses qui viennent à nous.
Si vous aviez quelque chose à faire évoluer sur la scène de la musique électronique ça serait quoi ?
L’image que les gens ont des femmes dans cet univers ! Et enfin nous débarrasser de l’éternelle question “Comment c’est d’être une femme dans la musique éléctronique ?”
Des idées pour combler votre temps libre une fois la tournée terminée ?
Notre tournée ne prendra jamais fin. Notre but c’est vraiment de créer un équilibre entre tournées, productions pour nos projets perso, passer du temps avec les gens qu’on aime tout en restant en bonne santé !

Hello Anstascia, Hello Vivie-Ann ! You have just released an EP on Get Physical, what could you tell us about this Voyeur EP ?
This EP was a remix package from our original track Voyeur that was released last summer on Get Physical. We asked Alex Niggeman as well as Jay Shepheard and Martin Dawson for remixes and they delivered solid work and both remixes got in the top 20’s on Beatport deep house and tech house charts.
How did you first get in touch with the label Get Physical ?
Well we had first contact at a Jungle party in mexico when Philipp M.A.N.D.Y. opened with one of our records. We didn’t realize he had it, and he also didn’t know it was our track, nor did he know who we were. The crowd went nuts and he signed “In my head” to Get Physical right then and there and welcomed us to the family 🙂 The saying about “being in the right place at the right time” really hits home for us.
Blond:ish has now been touring for months across the world, is there a date you are particularly looking forward to ?
It’s hard to really pick a few, the whole summer is looking incredible and full of love. We’re really looking forward to the Ibiza season especially the Flying Circus opening at Sankeys Ibiza on May 28th with Carl Craig, Audiofly, Lee Burridge, Ultrasone and the rest of the Flying Circus family – Kazantip and the SW4 Festival in London in August, returning to Piknic Electronik in Barcelona with MANDY&Audiofly, Uberhaus Terrace in Beirut….and of course Burning Man on the Robot Heart bus for sure!!
A fact that happenned during one of you gig that you still can not get out of your head ?
Well… I mean it’s funny now, but Anstascia once sprained her ankle on stage after jumping, and then another time at Studio Martin some girl sat on the Funktion One monitor and fell into the DJ Booth on Anstascia’s leg, not really funny, cause it could have been tragic. The bruise was all the way down her leg.
What are the main differences between your early shows and now ?
The main differences would probably be that we have a lot more fans lol so the energy naturally is more intense, and we don’t play as many early opening sets, but also Viv is always climbing on things and DJ Booths. I think it started at Panorama Bar last July, but now she’s always climbing, higher and higher.
Talking about your early career, have you always dreamt of becoming DJ’s or were you thinking about doing something else ?
Anstascia: I’ve always wanted to do something creative and went to study fashion design and marketing after highschool. Halfway through, I had a change of heart and realized I was completely obsessed with hunting for music and loved to make people dance and thought why not make a career out of it
Viv: I always thought I would be in computer ‘something’, what that something was … no idea… I guess I still I am with the producing and all
What are your main inspirations in electronic music/other kind of music ?
Our main inspirations at the moment come from all different pockets of the world, from the 1960’s psychedelic era – to native exotic instruments that we come across along our journeys around the world. We don’t really have one specific example its just whatever moves us along the way.
If you could change one thing on the electronic scene, what would it be ?
We would like to change people’s perception of what they automatically assume about female dj’s?? or just get rid of that question FOREVERRRRR that always get’s asked “how does it feel to be a woman in electronic music?” … seriously?
What do you plan to do once your tour is over ?
Our tour is never finished lol. We’re doing our best to balance touring with working on our album & music with spending time with loved ones and trying to stay healthy in this crazy world.
